Hello You!
Welcome to My Story.
Hi, I’m Nicole Stone & I’ve been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years having ‘discovered’ yoga whilst searching for something to relieve my back pain.
In my 20’s – I’m 60 now by the way – I was an avid gym goer as I believed this was where I’d get a ‘proper’ workout. I’d work long hours at my corporate desk & head to the gym on the way home where I’d push myself through a sweaty class or run on the treadmill until I could run no more.
One day, desperate for some relief from nagging back pain, I stepped into a yoga class and that’s when everything changed.
I had no idea how tight & inflexible I’d become – and how hard some of those ‘easy’ looking yoga poses were! I left that class feeling AMAZING and woke the next day with less back pain & the calmest I’d felt in years.
That was it! My curiosity with yoga began.
I began to spend less time in the gym & more time in yoga studios and, along the way, realised that actually, yoga can be just as challenging as some of those sweaty gym sessions I did.
My body began to change.
My muscles became toned, my posture improved, my core became tighter, I became way more flexible, I slept better & felt a whole lot calmer.
I decided to train as a yoga teacher so that I could share the amazing benefits of yoga with others. Fast forward a few years & I’m now trained to teach Hatha yoga, Vinyasa yoga, Breathwork, Restorative Yoga, Yoga for Bone Health & Yoga for the Menopause. Don’t worry if you don’t know what all these are, I promise, they make you feel sooo good!
Now, having turned 60, I can most definitely say I’m convinced yoga has helped me avoid many of the typical signs of ageing & I’m pretty sure yoga makes you feel much, much younger too!
However!
After breaking my arm in a biking accident during CoVid & going through a slow recovery, I realised how important it is to keep our muscles & bones as strong as possible as we get older. Declining hormone levels coupled with a less active lifestyle have a massive effect on the health & strength of our bones & muscles.
Adults can loose up to 3% of muscle mass per year and experience gradual decline in bone density too – especially after age 50.
While 3% might not sound much, over a decade, we could lose a third of our muscle mass! Losing muscle means losing strength and increasing the risk of becoming frail which makes everyday tasks harder – potentially leaving us dependent on others for support.
So …
My aim now is to use all I’ve learnt in yoga to help people build a stronger, more toned, flexible body from the inside out and, along the way, help them improve the way they breathe too. I really hope we’ll work together.
Let’s start building a stronger you today!
